This post is going to talk about why small business blogging is so important, especially if you want to boost your business without spending a lot of money on advertising and marketing.
FIRST OF ALL, WHAT IS A BLOG?
A blog is a page of a website that displays articles (also known as blog posts) in a feed. Your articles are usually updated on an ongoing basis and are listed in chronological order on your blog page.
A blog is also a cost-effective marketing investment. Adding a blog to your site is worth the time and effort since every article you publish has the potential to work long-term for you, bringing more traffic and leads, which could ultimately turn into more business!
Your blog can also help you build brand awareness, and promote your expertise, products, and services.
A good analogy for blogging is to think of it like fishing. The more "hooks" (blog posts) you have out there, the more likely you are to catch a "fish" (customer/client)!

Google loves new content, so by having a blog and blogging often (providing good, valuable content that is related to your business’ services, products or industry in general), you’ll be more likely to rank higher in search results and get indexed on the first page of Google.
When your content shows up on the first page of Google, people are more likely to click on it, which means more traffic to your website!
Being on the first page is where you want to be because people are less likely to go to the second page or beyond to get answers to their questions. They believe whatever content is on the first page is the best information they are going to find, and if they don’t find it with the initial question or phrase, they’ll just type in a new question or phrase.
To get to the top of Google, your blog posts will also need to be properly configured with SEO using keywords. “Keywords” are words someone would type into Google to search for your topic.
Here are Some Basic Do-It-Yourself SEO Tips:
- Make sure you include the major keywords in your title and at least twice within the text. If you have a subheading, put them in there as well.
- Bold or italic text on keywords or phrases helps with SEO, too (just not bold AND italic together in one word/phrase).
- Make sure you use H1, H2, H3 (headers) appropriately. H1 should be used once, H2 should be used about 2-3 times, and H3 can be used multiple times.
- If you have a photo, include your keywords in the ALT tag.
- Download the Yoast plugin or the All-in-One SEO plugin to configure your SEO on each page.

If you don’t know too much about SEO, a fast and easy way to drive targeted traffic to your website is by sharing your articles on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest or LinkedIn, and include a link back to your site.
Tip: The use of photos will catch people’s attention more than just a link, so try to use them when you’re sharing your articles!

According to HubSpot.com, the overall ROI (return on investment) is more likely to increase for businesses who blog; in fact, businesses who really prioritize blogging experience a 13X increase in ROI, year after year!
An active blog with quality content lets people know your business is alive and well-maintained. If you can help give people answers to their questions or find solutions to their problems within one blog post, they will be more likely to click around your website or blog to see what other good content they can find. This is what can lead to more business!

A blog gives you a platform to share your voice. You might have knowledge in your industry that others don’t; use your blog to share your insights while also establishing yourself as an expert in your field!
Publishing blog posts that are accurate, relevant to your industry and informative will eventually get the attention of industry insiders and earn you recognition as a trustworthy, authoritative source. When you’re considered a person or brand of authority, more people listen to you and what you recommend, which can ultimately result in more sales!

Use your blog to put your new services or products in the spotlight! This can help promote things you offer that most people might not even know about if you just had a static site, without a blog.
This also helps keep your content fresh and up-to-date, which is great for SEO!
